Johnny Depp, as usual, attracting the ladies with his charm of speech, behavior and comedy. Actions you'll see: He jumped from a great height from a cliff into fast flowing stream. Thriller portions in the middle, created by the swarms of scary mermaids that seeks to attack Johnny and his crew. One of his crew member fell in love with the mermaid and much of it will be lead to a part 5 sequel of this film. Yes, there'll be a part 5. Stay till the end credits to know what leads to it. Johnny did a short dance with Penelope. Don't need to consider the 3D version. It doesn't make a difference. The important thing is to follow and understand the storyline. 4/5. Watch to find out the rest.

Fast and Furious 5
If you love action movie, this is a freaking awesome movie. Its not just about high speed fast cars chase across town but its using these cars to pull a whole huge load of heavy container across the entire city. Smashing down every possible glass windows, denting every possible lamp post and breaking down concrete walls as the load swings from side to side. Literally destroying the entire city. How could that ever be filmed? From mission impossible to mission insanity. This time its going into the police headquarters, stealing piles of money from the riches man in Rio De Janerio, Brazil. It keeps you at the edge of your seat for almost 20 minutes towards the end. In the middle portion, you see high speed chase as they train; racing up winding roads of a multistory car park to beat the split second capture by the CCTV. All action with less humor. How about casting Martin Lawrence instead of Ludacris or gibson? More humor would be appreciated to moderate the film with some light-heartedness instead of overwhelming you with full of intensity. The Rock, Dwayne Johnson vs Vin Diesel in an engaging physical fight. 3.5/5.

Thor (28/4/11)
I like this film. Looks like its gona be like one of those Tron film. But I'm thankful it isn't. It much better than Tron. The plot was good. The acting isn't anything more than ordinary. The leading actor, played by Chris Hemsworth took this role as his debut 'Mighty' film; a character that displays power, energy and strength. Not too bad. He's an Australian, his character brother, a British and Natalie, an American. Nice mix of English accents. Its a film that speaks about jealousy and competition between brothers for the King's throne, conspiracy with evil and love between a human and another out of this world. The human mind is so limited. No matter how we try to design another species, to represent the outside world, its always something similar to the human race. Watch to find out how thor landed on earth, interacted with Natalie and had feelings for her but had to depart to go back to his planet to destroy his brother's plan to succeed his hibernating dad's throne due to greed and conspiracy with evil. In 3D, its not exactly great but it'll definitely enrich your movie experience. 3.8/5

The ultimate winner (14/4/11)
This show is unlike the usual king of gamblers series which we see through the Mediacorp channels in the past. Its about how uncontrolled greed in a professional gambler's life can destroy a person. From living a wealthy lifestyle, riding on continuous inflow of riches to a life less than ordinary. Some bits of lame, cold humor enhances brought the movie to a slightly lighter side. Li Nan Xing plays a really loyal dad and husband who is driven to use his talent gambling to win the wealth back for his family. After some high speed car chases and small matches, he was given a game to take on the real fight. He lost and he ends up turning over a new leaf through a help of the Christian community. Lots of Christian influence throughout the show. However this movie lacks excitement. I'm sure the audience would love to see more display of tricks. 2/5

RIO (7/4/11)
Its not just a movie for kids or teenage girls. Its a family movie and everyone of all ages is suitable watch it. Its not just cute, its expressive and enlightening. From the trailer, you'll get to see only a very small segment of the movie. The plot is much more elaborated that birds encouraging one another to fly. Its about bringing together two rare birds of its similar kind in hope that they would reproduce to carry on their breed. In the midst of that, there were many obstacles such as both of them became a stolen bird and the owner has to hunt everywhere in Rio for it. 4.5/5

Source Code (21/4/11)
Source code? Na.. I learn nothing about C++ or java or php. Not even the most basic HTML code is found in there. You got your title wrong, director and producer. You attract the IT geeks to watch only to find out its just a movie about a computer program that enables one to control a human being to go back into time to identify certain clues, rectify errors in the past and maybe return back to future or current state to bring back useful information. Yes, that is good, especially for a country's security. But you name it source code. How bout showing how the codes did it or explaining how your program algorithm work. Is that too boring? Then don't name it source code. Some reviews give like 4/5. I totally disagree with it. My rating is 3.5/5. Much of the show is repeated over and over again over different scenes. Its like the director had such good life to simply just repeating the plot, scene and the exact same setting, just changing some lines and style of approach for Jake to play it. Not that I didn't like the film but I guess it could be expanded alittle more for a more complicated crime plot instead of just going back again and again to the same train setting to find the suspect for the bomb blast. Recommended to watch it to understand my frustration.
Drive Angry 3D (21/4/11)
This film production is in association with Millenium films, the same company that produced the series, the girl with a dragoon tattoo, the girl who played with fire and the girl who kicked the hornet's nest. So you can trace some similarity in characteristics, like the gruesome scenes. You'll see nicholas cage shoots a gun at someone's hand and his whole hand blew off with blood spilling out. I guess, some of these scenes might have been reduced for Singapore audience. Picture nicholas getting shot in his eye with a zoom in view of it. Yucks, I turned my sight away from that. Some sexual scenes involved with a nude lady which was funny and exaggerated to show that Nicolas had the ability to shoot down his enemies while having sex. There is also scenes that tries to show a tone down version of some anti-christ ceremonies, like kidnapping nicholas's grand daughter who is still a baby to sacrifice her for the saviour of human being. This is the reason for nicholas to be on this journey to save his grand daughter. Along the way, he made a hot chic to be his partner throughout. This chic, Amber Heard, can fight. Its such a pity that they couldn't be together at the end. He had to return to, I supposed hell. He came back to earth just to save his grand daughter. From the beginning of the movie, there is a guy who is after nicholas, for that, I'll leave it for you to watch the film. But then again, I dislike the anti-christ parts and the gruesome parts. So for that I do not recommend this movie. 3/5.

Love and other impossible pursuits(14/04/11)
No singapore didn't change the title. This is the original title of the movie. Very meaningful film, especially for young married couples or couples with a newly born kid. You'll get to learn that these infants can be suffocated just by the act of breastfeeding without having an eye on the baby. Natalie plays a new wife whom her husband is a divorcee and has a kid. She tries really hard to get along with the kid, taking him out for ice cream, even when she knew he is glucose intolerant and got him to learn ice skating. He's really cute to watch and intelligent in conversing. Natalie gets very emotional every time when she thinks about her lost child and she thought she had suffocated her own child. Much of the plot centered about her whole fear and hopeless state of losing her baby. She had to even participate in a ceremonial walk that helps mums who lost their baby. However through investigations, the baby just died because it did and that eases her fear. 3.5/5
Let the bullets fly (31/3/11)
I don't like this film at all. Got deceived by the title without checking it out before I watch. So much conversation till some parts of it put my to sleep. Couldn't understand the way of humor. 'Let the bullets fly' the title is coined by the characters simply spraying their bullets around to lure or fake out an attack. Just skip this film. 2/5.
Limitless (7/4/11)
This review just confirms with many others that its a good film and everyone should watch it. IF you like complexity or a movie that makes you think and something that probably reminds you of creativity that you can express, this is the movie for you. Bradley cooper starts of this film as a fiction writer and ends up being a trading consultant. This life changing experience thrills him up with just one tiny pill. This pill not only gets him to finish writing his book in 3-5 days but impresses his boss and take on new jobs that requires him to predict the future as a trader. He earns millions in months and thus was given a chance to be a trading consultant to one of the top traders. However this pill has a negative side. If something is too good to be true, it is something not worth while taking on. This pill makes the body age faster and one would die earlier. One cannot stop taking the pill the moment one is hooked or else one would suffer great symptom of it like headaches and all other sorts of illnesses. However if one continues to take it, he won't suffer aging that quickly. So the question is, what if the pill runs out one day? That is the other side of the movie which expresses how some people is after his life for this pill. 4/5.

Don't go breaking my heart (7/4/11)
I guessed my heart was toyed over and over again deciding which guy I should choose, thinking yes he is sweet but the next moment, no he isn't and the next moment yes, I think I still love him and the next moment, I think the other has moved my cheesed alittle more. You'll go through the whole roller coaster ride throughout the whole movie as you watch indecisive yuan yuan.
Yes, this seems like the usual romantic, drama movie that girls like, but I suggest all guys should watch it. There's full of romantic and creative proposal ideas. It will definitely let you score a good proposal with your fiance. Both guys have their own sweet ways and Louis Koo exposed guy's stupidity. I recommend this movie for guys and girls will enjoy it as well. There's quite alot of toying so that part can be boring. Its like you just wana quickly get to the end to see who she goes with. I won't spoil it for you. 3/5.
HOP (31/3/11)
In my opinion, this movie isn't really good. The plot is not as predictable as it is. However, something still seems wrong. Firstly, is it really that cute? Nah... not cute enough. Secondly, the plot is creative but maybe alittle weird for logical people's imagination.
Its about this easter bunny who doesn't wana be an easter bunny. So he embarks on a journey to escape to be a drummer. Fortunately with his talent in drumming, he got himself an audition with David Hasselhoff. So he started playing for gigs and was contented with life when he realised that the ninja bunnies sent by his dad was after him. Along the way, he made a nice human being who housed him and he innocently ruin the house and messed it up. The ninja caught the human being and brought the guy back to this easter bunny secret hideout. Fortunately for this guy, he was interested in this easter bunny job and was eager to save the bunnies who happened to be in trouble at the point of time when he was brought back. This mean yellow chick wanted to take over the easter bunny job and eradicate all bunnies. So watch to find out what I described get pieced together to form a nice plot. Would be better if it was cuter. I wouldn't recommend this film. 3/5.

Diary of whimpy kid: rodrick rules
The Eagle (31/3/11)
This film though seems like it possess one of those hard core historic image, however you don't have to read the history throughout the story. It's basically all about a captain in the roman army, who brave himself against all odds, all mindsets and physical challenges to get back the eagle statue that is extremely significant to these roman soldiers. It was lost during a battle to one of their enemies. The weird thing is, it's supposed to be roman soldiers, but the actors speak American English. The beginning part was alittle draggy. It was difficult to understand how and why was a servant picked to live by the captain to serve him on this journey but his abilities began to unfold in the later part. Because of the little understanding between the captain and his servant, probably the lack of time to bond, the servant has to execute some of this smart moves ahead of the captain's approval or knowledge, to the point where the roles were reverse. The captain became the servant. It seems like a betrayal but that was necessary. Watch to find out the exciting journey and tense moments as each scene towards the end seems like a dead end to their solution. Touching ending. 3.5/5

Carmen 3D (31/3/11)
Movie for classical lovers, musicians and ballet interest people. Reviewing from a perspective of music lover. Its a great experience to watch it upclose. You could see the actual emotions displayed on their faces. One cannot enjoy the fantastic acoustic of a concert hall in comparison to watching it as a movie. To my surprise, there's intermission. Well, of course there is. But this is a movie. So having an intermission during a movie is weird. Of course many who didn't expect it to be in such classical, operatic, ballet movements would have left by then. It's really long in duration and can be very draggy. Carmen and her lovers keep forming many love triangles. One moment you thought she will settle down with this lover, the next moment is another man. This is my first witness for Carmen Bizet. The movie begins with the famous theme played by the orchestra. 3/5.
Morning glory (24/3/11)
Its all about being passionate about your work and changing the impression of people as a newbie in a management position. So applicable for university students and above. Watched only 1/2 of the show but its entertaining seeing Rachael Mcadams being so anxious to get things done, being put in tight spots to resolve issues and bring two really proud old people together. Not a must watch movie. Watch only when you have spare time and cash. 3/5.
Rango (10/3/11)
This is an intelligent movie. I thought it would be a movie for kids. But no. Lots of in between the lines to understand what's going on. Johnny Depp takes on this role of a desert lizard who lives alone with his toy fish and naked top lady mannequin. So he begins talking about what is life to him and trying to find what future paints for him. He meets with predators like birds who tries to eat him and a friend to told him that he needs to get to the other side of the road in order to find water. So on his quest to hunt for water, he met with a girl who could pause all of a sudden while in the midst of her speech. There was once she faked it to find out his response. So they ended up in a land full of desert animals who are eagerly waiting for the day that water would pour down from the sky. Johnny the lizard make the people of the believe that he was a hero. Half way through the town realized he wasn't and he had to leave. Watch to find out what happened. Certain scenes are weird. Unexpected. 3.5/5.

Perfect rivials (17/3/11)
You should totally skip this show. What are you doing, Irene Ang? Its your debut movie, you get your cast to tour round Singapore's shopping mall to promote your show. But it sucks. Total waste of time. Maybe humorous for some people with bad sense of humor. But generally I would roll my eye balls a thousand times. The only reason you should watch is for Mindee Ong. Her acting her is really cute and different. She puts on a total guy impersonation. Irene Ang, simply stands around, act like a boss, act important and say few lines here and there. She should get back to her Phua Chu Kang's wife role that suits her best. The jokes are so lame that I really want forget about it. It gives me such thrill down my spine to appreciate this as something local. 1/5.
How do you know (3/3/11)
This show is quite boring. Not a must watch at all. Ladies would appreciate this show better. But guys can learn from Owen Wilson's mistake in his relationship. Its about Reese being in a dilemma whether to get involve with a guy who seems weird but gentlemanly or continue with the one she currently has who is rich but self-centered. This rich guy, played by Owen Wilson, can be a typical behavior for many guys who think that their relationship is stable in enough and there for I can impose what I want on my partner and my partner must follow me. So in order to keep Reese happy, he can provide for her many gifts that many would gawk at. However in contrary, she isn't happy. They often get into fights because of what he wants to do and where he wants to go; instead of doing what both would compromise to do as an item. I guess in US. items move in together to live with one another is a way for them to see if they can survive together long-term in a relationship. So when Reese walked out of Owen, she met Paul Rudd the weird guy who made kind of a bad impression on her over their first conversation over the phone. Paul often seem like a failure in his purse for her as Reese though unhappy was still committed to her relationship with Owen. However he still made a meaningful impression on her as the gifts he gives, though stupid, had sentimental value. He was her listening ear. So Reese chose Paul in the end. If you're a fan of the starring celebrities you should go for it. Main theme of the movie revolves around romance with very little humor. 2/5.
Never let me go (24/2/11)
I watch this because I like Andrew Garfield. This is a sad British film. The kids were brought up in a school whereby when they reach adulthood, they would have to donate their organs 3 times even before death. Most of the them die by the 3rd donation. So it can be quite moving towards the end. It elaborates from young teenage life of the kids and show how some of the got together as couples and the jealousy over the other. Some believed that by showing as a couple that they have true love for each other, might be able to extend their "lifespan"The plot was different from usual. Not really predictable. Watch for the curiosity over the plot or maybe for the acting ability. This movie films the lives of 3 kids. 2 girls and a guy in a love triangle. One of them ended up as couple while the other looks on jealously, trying hard to stay strong and never giving her love to anyone else. Watch to find out the complicated tangle in this love affair. Andrew regretted not contributing his art work seriously during his younger days which might give him a chance to redeem himself from this 'death sentence'. So the movie films him going to his former teacher's home at the age when he is in his early twenty's to try and ask for a redemption. However it was revealed to him that there is no redemption once he is in this scheme. Sad ending. 3.5/5

Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son (10/3/11) review coming soon
Writing from a point of view as a virgin to the big momma's movie. I think this film is really funny. Its the way they act and talk and express it. I like the part where the father tells his son your name will be now known as 'Charmaine Daisy Pears'. The son, played by Brandon can rap and sing. He's good. There was a duet featured for a few moments. Brandon acted both the big momma's son and a rapper that dates this girl from school. He cant control his excitement as he enters a girl's school and live in a girls dorm. He is dressed in a girl's suit and has to speak and think the way a girl should. He gave himself during the performance on stage with the girl doing a duet. But the further truth was revealed when it was realised that big momma's undercover as ladies were to investigate the stolen information that would expose some crime. Watch it and have a good laugh. 4/5

Gnomeo and Juliet (3/3/11)
This is quite a short British animated film. 3D for this film should definitely not be considered a choice at all. The effect was not really popping out at you even if you watch it at one of the biggest screen in Asia. Well suited for children and teenage girls. The character play were very cute and adorable. It plots about Gnomeo, belonging to the blue territory and Juliet, belonging to the red territory fell in love with each other at first sight. This is impossible in their world, however it happened. The characters resemble Toy story, as everyone went into still position the moment a human being arrived. Blues and Reds were something like portrayed similar to the differentiation of the human race via skin colour. Gnomeo, however fought through many odds against him and saved Juliet in the end. Throughout the cause, Gnomeo was even perceived as dead after being crushed by an on coming truck into glass pieces. This film is definitely recommended for its cuteness.
Cuteness level: 4/5. Overall rating: 3.5/5

What woman want (17/2/11)
This is writing with no comparison to the previous film done that stars Mel Gibson. This is a film about Andy Lau, taking some woman's birth control pills and got himself into an electric shock which turns on his 'Anima'(woman's side of a man) side that can hear what woman are thinking to themselves in their minds. Using this great ability, he steals Gong Li's ideas to deliver them in the company. He and Gong Li are rivals in the company. However, the good side is he knows what she is thinking without her saying and he would always give the appropriate answers, leaving ladies guessing how he knew them so well. He was urged by his dad to confess it to her in the end and of course, a sweet ending with her forgiving him.
Mostly cheeky tiring comedy scenes. Gong Li didn't display much charm as she did in previous films like Shanghai. She wore specs for some scenes in this film. If you miss the original film by Mel Gibson 11 years ago, you should just watch this to know what the plot is like. Only some scenes are boring. Generally not. 3/5.
IF you're those kind who look for predictability in a movie, then this film is not for you. The remake of this film not only allow the Chinese speaking to understand the original film better but it allows us as an audience to judge/appreciate the expression/performance of a different set of cast taking on the same plot.
People who wants to watch this film will watch only because Gong Li is acting. Or Andy Lau is acting. Because we wanna see them act thats all.
People who wants to watch this film will watch only because Gong Li is acting. Or Andy Lau is acting. Because we wanna see them act thats all.
No strings attached (17/2/11)
This film has less comedy and more romance and drama. Not a really exciting film, just normal pace. Ashton Kutcher was literally naked.
Some scenes are slightly different from what you see in trailers.
Some scenes are slightly different from what you see in trailers.
For e.g, when Ashton's friend asked him, did you had sex with Natalie, when Ashton replied no, erm, yes, he's friend goes like Wow.. I like that part. But its different in the movie.
Natalie was happy keeping Ashton as a sex friend till one day he got serious and wana start dating her. She's not the marrying kind and decided to be apart till one day when she realizes her mistake, she returns to find him with another woman. However situations made it possible for them to get back together again. Its sweet to have nice ending.
Natalie Portman's getting bolder with her screenplay. This is guess is her first really sexual screenplay as a leading actress for the role. Ashton is a regular choice for such films. 3.5/5

True Grit (24/2/11)
This should be the poster picture of the movie. Its this girl that stars in the film, followed by Jeff Bridges and then Matt Damon. It is hailee steinfeld's first movie. And wow, she got it to do with legendary actor Jeff Bridges and season actor Matt Damon and she did it so well. Her acting is good here. But the movie? Erm.. Its reallly really boring. I don't know why people rate it so well. Jeff speaks like a typical old man voice. Its so unclear as he went about his own speech for minutes. Honestly, if you want to watch it, only watch for this girl. She's a talent. It's about a movie of her embarking on a journey to seek for the murderer of her father. When found, she was just meters apart from each other. The story went on with some tense moments. You'll get to see her falling into a deep hole and when she thought of an idea to grab something, suddenly it opens up to be a skeleton and snakes glide out of what used to be stomach.
Much culture is appreciated in this film, since it is film based on olden way of living. Hailee shows off her courage by negotiating with an elder about the sale of her ponies and horses and getting serious with Jeff Bridges, convincing him that she was looking for him, who is a man of True Grit. She takes a horse, gallops it across a river of water height just allowing the horse to breathe. The journey begins there. My take: 3/5.

The King's Speech (17/2/11)
Colin Firth plays a role of a speech impaired king. So how embarrassing it was for a king to be unable to even speak confidently in front of a large crowd on a important occasion. The introduction in this movie paints the picture for you. Not just the problem with articulation of words but only the pronunciation of the first alpherbet of his sentences were heard. This movie shows his journey of him regaining confidence and a much better ability for him to address a crowd by reading a 9 minutes long speech from the radio. Very well acted to portray the struggles that a speech impaired person suffers. That was why he is nominated for the academy awards in this film. Most of the scenes were of how his teacher gradually helped him to open and relax himself through various exercises and his frustration thrown towards his teacher. But could he play the role better? Only the speech impaired person can tell. Some scenes can be alittle boring, however the english cultured is much appreciated here. So that explains the formality and way of life. Many audiences like it but not really impressive for me. My rating: 3.5/5
Its a great great world (27/1/11)
This is for old people. For people born before the world war till the separation of Singapore from Malaysia. This movie is entirely spoken in dialects of mostly Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese and Hainanese. The accents of these languages were really protrayed out. It would be a history lesson for those who do not know anything about the entertainment industry during the 40's and a memory recall for those who have been through those times. To me, honestly, its boring. It was lame, old fashion, really like watching movies during the 70s. It would be more realistic if this was in black and white. 2/5. Not recommended for young people.
Unknown (24/2/11)
This movie draws my attention from the beginning till the end. If you have read the synopsis, its about his wife being dragged into a situation where she has to completely treat him as a stranger. In comparison to Taken, his style of acting is just so similar. Except this time, a lady cares for him instead of him and assist him instead of him going to save a lady. Well, yes he embarks on a mission to save his wife but in the end the wife died tragically. No its not sad. Its a very complicated movie. As he slowly recalls back different incidents in his life then the story begins to uncover. You'll get to see high speed car chase on the roads and many tense moments.
4/5.
Biutiful (24/2/11)
Very very boring. Mind you its 2.5 hours. Skip this film unless you're a Javier Bardem fan or you simply like to watch European cultures. There was a scene where Javier was telling his kid how to spell the word biutiful and that's how the film got its title. What?! Yeah, that's right. I don't get it too.
However Javier is a good actor. He displays this irritated dad that worries alot about his illegal job he's involved. Always trying to satisfy the police and his illegal jobseekers at the same time. His wife, who totally unnecessarily bears body in this film to be rated M18, is a massue that isn't very responsible of the way she lives as a mother and a wife. So she's in tears when Javier wants to keep the kids away from her but yet she isn't changing her lifestyle.
Its a slow moving film, but if you do watch it, here's somethings that can help you appreciate this film:
Its shot in Spain, so language spoken is Spanish. Throughout the film, you get to see the poor lifestyle in Spain, where the houses are so cram and tiny. The streets are filled with illegal hawkers. When the police arrive, hundreds of them flee in all directions. These people obviously can't get a job and yet they can't do their own hawking, so their wife and kid suffer when they're caught and put to jail. Javier is psychologically tauted with people who are suffering. A group of his workers died when there was a gas leak. These are problems that he goes through and goes back home to a kid that keeps knocking the table as he eats. Javier was nominated for an award from this film so if you wana watch it, make sure you're prepared to go through the slow pace for 2.5 hours. 3/5

Just go with it (10/2/11)
Once again, I would like to reiterate that such American comedies doesn't make me laugh at all. But I would still recommend you should still watch it. You'll see 3 sides of Jennifer in this movie. The auntie side, the pretty side and the 'gorgeous sight'. Sorry but i'll spoil it, Brooklyn Decker, the hottie in the middle of the poster isn't the only one u'll see in her bikini. Of course Aniston does it too for a few precious minutes.
Everyone's talking about Aniston's daughter in the film just because of her 'talent to speak the british accent well', just like an adult? HELLO??!! Come on.. its a movie. She probably rehearsed it like thousands of time that the director has to retake her scene over and over again before it gets this perfect. So don't be deceive by her so called 'talent'.
The trailer has already exposed much of the comical scenes so many were expected. Nicole kidman was a surprised addition to the film. That comes towards the end where she and Aniston were in a real bitchy competitive mood. My take is 3.5/5

All Well Ends Well (3/2/11)
I never appreciate such lame shows. Comedies hardly make me laugh. But I guess many of you might like it. This year's sequel takes a different approach. Compared to last year's, 2010, which plotted in an olden times setting, now has its plot mostly based on make up. Is there a trend these days with male being influenced to put them up? Donnie Yen and the usual Louis Koo did quite well in this movie. Donnie puts on make up for the ladies and communicate with them like playing the role of IP Man. Ip man spoof. Quite funny to see that but then again it tires my cheek muscle with just a smile. Donnie woos the ladies with his make up skills. Louis, CEO of a make up company, plays the role of a gay-liked character that tries to match make a rich man and one of his staff. When him and donnie met, they were like old time competitors. Well, the sound and movement make it so. Time and time again, Donnie will be reflected as IP Man. Skip this movie. Another usual, nonsense, unlaughable and ridiculous comedy. 2/5.

Shaolin (20/1/11)
Before I watch this movie, I received two very different views. Many like it and yet many hate it. Why?
Firstly, find out the main lead before you watch. In this case is Andy lau, not Jacky Chan. So many who watch because there were seeking to see some moves from Jackie Chan were utterly disappointed. Its so obvious on the bloody poster that Andy Lau takes a bigger portion of the image. And how on earth can Jackie Chan fans get disappointed that there were not much action from him. Thats so stupid.
Secondly, if you're watching just to look at kung fu fighting, then this is not the film for you. Go and re-watch IP man over and over again. You'll be soon get arrested for testing it out in public.
Nicholas Tse plays the bad guy in this movie and Jackie Chan plays the comical chef.
Andy Lau, from Hong Kong, was forced to display the typical olden days China man's behavior which may still be active today. The way he eats his noodles, look at it. Its like there's no need to chew on your food. Direct it straight down your oesophagus while is hot. The ridiculously selfish attitude. Killing someone and the next moment expect his daughter to get healed when facing death. But life turned over for him when he decided to humble and become a monk. In the end portraying an extremely self-less series of actions that protected Nicholas tse from dying. Nicholas betrayed Andy in the beginning and thats where the differences started.
Its a definite must watch blockbuster. 4/5. Some parts were a little draggy. There was no need for Andy to perform kung fu with the young kid. Very touching ending.

Black Swan (10/2/11)
Totally agree with the Academy Awards for the movie and thumbs up to Natalie and Mila, though ballet skills were not fantastic in the movie. So ballerinas, don't expect to be inspired by their skills. I hate thrillers and this movie made me hate them more. There were many thrilling portions that project Natalie's image as a really, really psychologically affected lady. She sees too many things that were not true, not present or just totally in her own world. She could totally be lost in her imaginations that even when she is hurting herself with a knife, she thinks, she's killing somebody. Are all the thrillers completely necessary? I don't think so. Thank God its tchaikovsky music that lightens it a little. Though it does makes you very tense and drawn in but its still quite predictable and not as bad as a sudden burst of cymbals or drums to an unknown music. The thrillers were so much that it makes Natalie character a little too crazy to be in.
It was just competing to play both the role of a black and white swan together in the same concert. If you can do that, you're the swan queen. Of course respect from the other ballerinas comes along and pride. Natalie faces pressure from her mum to excel. Her mum was strict on her. There were many scenes that portray Mila as the bad girl, when she wasn't really because of Natalie's affected soul. Due to this, Natalie's mind is always distracting her and thus making her so tense in her dance movements. She can't be free and live out the dance in her character. So, her teacher got personal with her and instructed her to touch herself to get liberated from her constantly, irritating anxiety.
A must watch. 4.5/5.
The green hornet (27/1/11)
Hahahaa... Jay Chou can't even speak english. What's the point of getting him to act. Quick. Watch this movie before it ends. I heard so much bad reviews about this film, now then I know why. The plot is fine. Ok, maybe alittle ridiculous but isn't it supposed to be an action comedy? So of course you have to accept the ridiculous and nonsense part. But the best thing about this movie is laughing at how stupid Jay Chou is especially beside Seth Rogen. Hello, Seth Rogen is like a pure American, speaking with all his slangs, tones and flowery english words. But this loser Jay Chou can only simply nod his head and say very simple english sentences with much difficulty. Like for example. Nobody out of the blue would say, Want to see something cool? Seth gave a stupid face at him and say yeah.. And Jay replied, ok, come. Haha.. how loser.
This film needs someone who can fight and speak English. Why don't they try to audition someone with that talent. Well, if their motive is to make fun of Jay then great. I would totally support it. He completely makes Asian look retarded especially when Americans have already been teasing Asians all these while, calling them chinks and pulling their eyes to the side. Someone like a younger Jackie Chan. 3/5.
The Last Days of Emma Blank (6/1/11)
I like this dutch film. Its an "action" movie. Not the kind of action that you see in blockbusters, but the miming kind of action. On the other hand, this movie can be alittle boring and sometimes ridiculous. Thank goodness, action speaks louder than words so you won't have to read the translation throughout the movie. For some people, this movie would be alittle slow moving but for me its fine. Its about Emma Blank, who is the mother of the household and acts like a queen in the house. Her husband and children has to serve her formally and be treated like a servant. She also has a "dog" in the house, or rather a human kind of dog. He has to be treated and called like a dog. He has to perform the actions like a dog, including masturbation against someone's leg. He has to poop in the sand like a dog and run to catch ball. They were all doing that just to inherit the wealthy possession that was promised to them by Emma Blank when she died. Finally, when she revealed that there wasn't any money for them, they gave up treating her well, rebelled and even staple her to the ground. On top of this usual plot, there were small interesting scene where Emma's daughter was involved with a guy she couldn't take home. Skip this movie if you don't have patience to watch the slow action movie. Not really slow, but somethings are quite mundane. 2.5/5.

Paris Express (13/1/11)
Its unlucky that this movie is not popular here. Its hilarious. Its about a delivery man who gets involved in a secret agent delivery package which he didn't know it was and some how got himself being chased, chasing, fighting, following all on the wedding day. How unlucky, silly but really funny. I won't describe much but just go and catch it. 4.3/5.
All Good Things (13/1/11)
How about comparing this to the recently opened japanese film, Confessions. Psychopatic. Not my type of film. However this film isn't as intense as Confessions. Much preferred. Rating is NC16 with few seconds of Kristen Dunst showing off her boobs? That wasn't necessary actually. Ryan gosling plays a middle-aged man, an old man and a lady in this film. It is based on a true story of a missing person till today and ability, of though psychopatic but still could defend his case in court against an alleged murder of his wife, played by Kristen. Due to his death of his mum, he didn't want to have a kid and told Kristen to abort but was unfortunate not to be there with her at the hospital. He put her by her hair out of her graduation party with her family. That humilated her and wanted a divorce with him but was unable to due to some circumstances. The film then went on to show how he disguised himself as a woman to escape from reality. Feel free to skip. Not a must watch. 3.5/5

Love & other drugs (6/1/11)
Some say its like soft porn. Like everyone, I rate it 4/5. Anne's boobs was stunning. She wanted to show the doctor a patch of black spot on her boobs and she beared it all infront of Jake, the "intern" doctor or in actual fact, drug representative. Jake, the salesman here, has a job to sell his product to doctors and get them to prescribe his company's product. Really tough job. However, he's charismatic and can be a cut above the average sales person by putting extra effort in sweet talking the dispensary ladies and giving them flowers, slowly working his samples up to the medicine shelf. Anne Hathaway was amazing in this film, bearing almost her entire body with Jake. She here plays a girl with parkinson diease at stage 1. So it was Anne's self-esteeem that was affected. So how much Jake did, she couldn't accept and found that she was the troublemaker. The ending was kind of quick as Jake and Anne broke up for awhile and Jake chased her back. Anne wasn't the only one bearing all. There was the other girl at the pyjamas party too. This is a romantic movie that guys would love.

Yogi Bear (23/12/10)
Hardly even any kids or anyone was laughing in the cinema. Its all about Yogi thinking that he is smarter than an average bear, since he has the ability to speak and think. So, he simply steals people's food instead of hunt for one. This keeps people away from jellystone park. His movements are quite stupid but yet he never gives up showing off his talent. Till one day, during jellystone's anniversary, he chased everyone away due to his mistake. It was a peaceful ending as Yogi was made the hero out of his stupidity and prevent the governor from clearing jellystone. Skip this movie. It isn't cute either. The only good thing is that the movie is really short. Not draggy. 2/5
Rabbit without ears 2 (13/1/11)
I don't get it why straits Times life only rate this 2/5. Nonsense. Its 4/5. German shows are great. At least so far two that I've seen. Wana know why is it rated R21? The first minute into the movie, you'll be greeted with a hot chic with sexually expressive facial expressions and sounds she make as she speak and she'll say let me show you a secret and then unzip her top, exposing her fake huge boobs. That makes it a straight M18. Next, you see some fake and extremely long penis here attached to man's crotch, describing that as eiffel tower. If that was cut and rate it NC16, more people can watch this film. Was that really necessary? You tell me. It was just to show a man dreaming as he wakes up from bed to the voice of his screaming wife, nagging and questioning him why was the huge pile of bottles not cleared. Its a show about relationships and their problems between husband and wife. The attentiveness that men must give to a woman and the space that woman must give to a man. As for the title, why rabbit without ears? Its because of a soft toy that the couple made for the kids in their job to entertain the kids in a puppet show. It really has no relation to the movie plot. I hope the DVD realeased would cut off the first part to bring it down to NC 16. I recommend married couples to watch.
Lelio popo movie (13/1/11)
Lelio popo resembles the muttons from 987FM. Yes, it features the two Malaysian deejays, KK and ah Luke. Most of language is in Cantonese, if you can't you have to read the subtitles which are provided in malay, chinese and english. I'm impress with the way the deejays communicate. It protrays such good chemistry and understanding between each other.
Its a story about these two deejays who just got scolded by their radio manager, a lady and brought this general issue of how is it like working under a lady boss. Well, you think they ask for it? But I think its good. Deejays should voice out any unhappiness they have even if its a political issue within the radio office itself that may risk them getting the sack. So, in the effort of trying to get another job, they post themselves as old ladies to get hired by another stations who are hiring old ladies. In the course of it, they protray a good image. However, Mindee Ong's reel boyfriend, was jealous not to get the chance to be the deejay instead. He plays the bad guy in this show and eventually was the one who exposed the true gender of the "old ladies" in a concert. However the audience were supportive as bonds between them and the deejays have been formed and the audience like them.
Lessons like respecting your elders or coming home more often for dinner was protrayed over and over again in this film. Hmm... typical asian film.
About whether its funny? I don't really thing so, except for afew jokes. Watch to find out. Skip t if you're not into Cantonese.

Kinako: A Police Dog Dream(6/1/11)
Bad news for dog lovers, this movie is rated 1/5 by Straits Times Life. Ha! Boo to that rating. I rated alittle higher. Maybe 2.5? Most dog shows end of with either the dogs dying or lost or some kind of a sad ending but this film, its a happy ending. Remember Haichiko or Marley and me? Did you cry? Many did. There's only 1 sad part in the middle, where the dog trainer couldn't take the pressure of dog trainings anymore and decided to part ways with the dog to return back to her home. Oh well, that was sad. The dog barked and barked, like calling the owner to return. Kinako was sad till the owner finally returned.
Kinako is afraid of heights and would never jump over an obstacle and could never pass a smelling test exam to be qualified as a police dog. There was a scene that shows it lands head down, on the floor as it trys to jump over an obstacle. Wow. Its neck could have broke. However Kinako was more like a celebrity to the city even though he keeps failing its police dog exam. Watch to find out how. Rating: 2.5/5.
Fair game review (13/1/11)
This is based on a true story and you have to read the movie from start to end. No, not read the translation, but every piece of information is important. Every scene moves fast and there's lots of information to grasp. If you're tired from a long working day, don't watch this film. You'll be drained out. The entire movie has conversations after conversations and news after news. As good as a documentary. Wow, Naomi Watts went to Kuala Lumpar to film the beginning part. Of course it's malaysia's tourism board that wants to promote its unique twin tower icon.
Throughout the movie, you'll see snapshots of how certain scenes are related to the news about the war of US and iraq. The entire plot is based on a political issue between this couple and the white house. In my opinion, the war on iraq can be prevented. Watch to find out more.
Rating:3/5
The Fighter review (6/1/11)
Many reviewers like this film. But for me, this award winning film is just normal. Its based on a true story. Christian Bale did really well in this film. He had to immitate the actions of the original fighter/trainer, Dickie Eklud. Actions like the attitude, behaviour and way of speech. At the end of the movie, the real micky ward and Dickie will be featured and you can make your own comparison.
Christian Bale in this movie, takes on an aggressive and rash behaviour that leads him to jail at the point of time when his brother, played by Mark, was in need to train up for an upcoming fight match. Mark, plays Micky Ward, that uses a one punch knock out blow in his fights. So he would simply block off hits all the way till the opponent is tired before he gives the knock out blow. Seems impressive. The front few scenes were merely showing how Mark gains his confident from a fighter that lacks experience to someone who wins the championship. So, the actual boxing match, just like many other movies like Tekken and Karate Kid that features fighting matches, would be right at the end. And after the match, you know the movie is over.
Amy Adams plays Mark's girlfriend and an irritant to Mark's family. She's hot and rowdy. There is a scene with Mark and her making out in lingerie.
This movie was shot in Massachusetts, USA, so the houses, cars and environment is a little vintage.
Rating 3/5.

Time Traveller: The girl who leapt through time (16/12/10)
This film is a remake of the animated film released in 2006. I'm not a fan of animation, so I would prefer this, though still has some fantasy in it that puts me off. This is a Japanese film that plots about a girl who agreed to travel back in time to fulfill her hospitalized mum's dream. She was instructed to drink a portion of this certain potion that would take her back to a certain date. Of course realistically this is impossible. But the stupid thing is that she returns to the wrong date, 2 years ahead of where she should be. During the turn back time period, it was stupid. She was seen screaming and struggling through a dark enviroment where lots of large images of numbers, alpherbets and signs fly pass her on her sides and as she leap from one falling brick to another. And at the end, she simply fall from the sky and land on someone. She landed in the right venue but it was the wrong person that she intended to meet. But the guy was kind enough to house her and help her to find the right man she was supposed to look for. A tragic ending as the guy who housed her died in an accident. The right man erased her mind off this friendship and send her back to the original time. It was sad how her memory had to be gone. But an item was brought back with her. Watch to find out what it is. 2.5/5

Confessions (25/11/10)
This movie is crazy. Its crap. Its sick. The plot goes like this: A teacher who had her daughter killed by her students of age 13/14 when berserk calmly. One day she came into class and gave every student a packet of milk to drink. While drinking she began to unfold slowly and subtly the story of her daughter getting killed, hinting to the class two of her students were the killers. The moment she said she wanted to take revenge by putting HIV into the milk of those two students, both of them when mad in their own ways. One, just stood there crying in fear and the other burst out into the toilet and laughing it out in the end, thinking, she wouldn't really do such thing.
However the one who stood there crying in fear was the one that turned mad for the rest of the school semester. He messed him his room, scream in an intolerant way everyday and eventually killed his mum. His self-esteem was affected, he saw himself as unclean. In actual fact, the teacher did not put in HIV. She said it just to make the students reflect upon themselves. This boy who went mad was kind of like the loser to the other guy. The other guy was smarter and at the scene of killing the teacher's daughter, he taunted him saying that he was lousy and wanted to use him. The teacher's daughter wasn't actually dead yet but he went ahead to drown her in the pool. The smarter guy killed his own classmate/girlfriend and eventually his mum unknowingly. Sights of blood smearing on the walls and scary faces with psychotic emotions.
Its a movie with people full of perverse thoughts and can't think straight, thus using murder as a result to solve problems. Its weird. Don't watch it. Yet some still think its good. Each slot available for booking are always full house in the theatres. 3/5.
The Tourist (30/12/10)
Its all about appreciating the calmness and the inner beauty of Angelina Jolie. Can you relate this lady to Salt, the russian spy? Definitely, not much difference in image and dressing. But she looks slightly older compared to the role, Salt and she gives a very warm motherly feeling here. The way she walks, carry herself, facial expression, especially the way she blinks her eyes. It slows you down from the moderately intense and slightly comical introduction. In the midst of the storm, there is calmness. Wow.. Beautiful. Johnny Depp takes on a more serious role in the film. The train ride conversation between them was basically introducing themselves as they get to know one another. She, tries to draw him to her.
I thought the beginning was good, it seems like something really exciting coming up. But you get calm down during the train ride and bits of scenes along the way gets you excited again. Well, the ending wasn't fantastic, maybe it should be more realistic instead of having the gun shot that crashes through the glass window in slow motion and all three man drop dead at an instance.
Some reviewers say this film is disappointing. Probably the film should have thrown in one or two more dramatic chase to hunt down the couple. 3.5/5
