Shaolin (20/1/11)

Before I watch this movie, I received two very different views. Many like it and yet many hate it. Why?
Firstly, find out the main lead before you watch. In this case is Andy lau, not Jacky Chan. So many who watch because there were seeking to see some moves from Jackie Chan were utterly disappointed. Its so obvious on the bloody poster that Andy Lau takes a bigger portion of the image. And how on earth can Jackie Chan fans get disappointed that there were not much action from him. Thats so stupid.
Secondly, if you're watching just to look at kung fu fighting, then this is not the film for you. Go and re-watch IP man over and over again. You'll be soon get arrested for testing it out in public.

Nicholas Tse plays the bad guy in this movie and Jackie Chan plays the comical chef.
Andy Lau, from Hong Kong, was forced to display the typical olden days China man's behavior which may still be active today. The way he eats his noodles, look at it. Its like there's no need to chew on your food. Direct it straight down your oesophagus while is hot. The ridiculously selfish attitude. Killing someone and the next moment expect his daughter to get healed when facing death. But life turned over for him when he decided to humble and become a monk. In the end portraying an extremely self-less series of actions that protected Nicholas tse from dying. Nicholas betrayed Andy in the beginning and thats where the differences started.

Its a definite must watch blockbuster. 4/5. Some parts were a little draggy. There was no need for Andy to perform kung fu with the young kid. Very touching ending.

Black Swan (10/2/11)

Totally agree with the Academy Awards for the movie and thumbs up to Natalie and Mila, though ballet skills were not fantastic in the movie. So ballerinas, don't expect to be inspired by their skills. I hate thrillers and this movie made me hate them more. There were many thrilling portions that project Natalie's image as a really, really psychologically affected lady. She sees too many things that were not true, not present or just totally in her own world. She could totally be lost in her imaginations that even when she is hurting herself with a knife, she thinks, she's killing somebody. Are all the thrillers completely necessary? I don't think so. Thank God its tchaikovsky music that lightens it a little. Though it does makes you very tense and drawn in but its still quite predictable and not as bad as a sudden burst of cymbals or drums to an unknown music. The thrillers were so much that it makes Natalie character a little too crazy to be in.
It was just competing to play both the role of a black and white swan together in the same concert. If you can do that, you're the swan queen. Of course respect from the other ballerinas comes along and pride. Natalie faces pressure from her mum to excel. Her mum was strict on her. There were many scenes that portray Mila as the bad girl, when she wasn't really because of Natalie's affected soul. Due to this, Natalie's mind is always distracting her and thus making her so tense in her dance movements. She can't be free and live out the dance in her character. So, her teacher got personal with her and instructed her to touch herself to get liberated from her constantly, irritating anxiety.
A must watch. 4.5/5.

The green hornet (27/1/11)

Hahahaa... Jay Chou can't even speak english. What's the point of getting him to act. Quick. Watch this movie before it ends. I heard so much bad reviews about this film, now then I know why. The plot is fine. Ok, maybe alittle ridiculous but isn't it supposed to be an action comedy? So of course you have to accept the ridiculous and nonsense part. But the best thing about this movie is laughing at how stupid Jay Chou is especially beside Seth Rogen. Hello, Seth Rogen is like a pure American, speaking with all his slangs, tones and flowery english words. But this loser Jay Chou can only simply nod his head and say very simple english sentences with much difficulty. Like for example. Nobody out of the blue would say, Want to see something cool? Seth gave a stupid face at him and say yeah.. And Jay replied, ok, come. Haha.. how loser.

This film needs someone who can fight and speak English. Why don't they try to audition someone with that talent. Well, if their motive is to make fun of Jay then great. I would totally support it. He completely makes Asian look retarded especially when Americans have already been teasing Asians all these while, calling them chinks and pulling their eyes to the side. Someone like a younger Jackie Chan. 3/5.

The Last Days of Emma Blank (6/1/11)

I like this dutch film. Its an "action" movie. Not the kind of action that you see in blockbusters, but the miming kind of action. On the other hand, this movie can be alittle boring and sometimes ridiculous. Thank goodness, action speaks louder than words so you won't have to read the translation throughout the movie. For some people, this movie would be alittle slow moving but for me its fine. Its about Emma Blank, who is the mother of the household and acts like a queen in the house. Her husband and children has to serve her formally and be treated like a servant. She also has a "dog" in the house, or rather a human kind of dog. He has to be treated and called like a dog. He has to perform the actions like a dog, including masturbation against someone's leg. He has to poop in the sand like a dog and run to catch ball. They were all doing that just to inherit the wealthy possession that was promised to them by Emma Blank when she died. Finally, when she revealed that there wasn't any money for them, they gave up treating her well, rebelled and even staple her to the ground. On top of this usual plot, there were small interesting scene where Emma's daughter was involved with a guy she couldn't take home. Skip this movie if you don't have patience to watch the slow action movie. Not really slow, but somethings are quite mundane. 2.5/5.

Paris Express (13/1/11)

Its unlucky that this movie is not popular here. Its hilarious. Its about a delivery man who gets involved in a secret agent delivery package which he didn't know it was and some how got himself being chased, chasing, fighting, following all on the wedding day. How unlucky, silly but really funny. I won't describe much but just go and catch it. 4.3/5.

All Good Things (13/1/11)

How about comparing this to the recently opened japanese film, Confessions. Psychopatic. Not my type of film. However this film isn't as intense as Confessions. Much preferred. Rating is NC16 with few seconds of Kristen Dunst showing off her boobs? That wasn't necessary actually. Ryan gosling plays a middle-aged man, an old man and a lady in this film. It is based on a true story of a missing person till today and ability, of though psychopatic but still could defend his case in court against an alleged murder of his wife, played by Kristen. Due to his death of his mum, he didn't want to have a kid and told Kristen to abort but was unfortunate not to be there with her at the hospital. He put her by her hair out of her graduation party with her family. That humilated her and wanted a divorce with him but was unable to due to some circumstances. The film then went on to show how he disguised himself as a woman to escape from reality. Feel free to skip. Not a must watch. 3.5/5

Love & other drugs (6/1/11)

Some say its like soft porn. Like everyone, I rate it 4/5. Anne's boobs was stunning. She wanted to show the doctor a patch of black spot on her boobs and she beared it all infront of Jake, the "intern" doctor or in actual fact, drug representative. Jake, the salesman here, has a job to sell his product to doctors and get them to prescribe his company's product. Really tough job. However, he's charismatic and can be a cut above the average sales person by putting extra effort in sweet talking the dispensary ladies and giving them flowers, slowly working his samples up to the medicine shelf. Anne Hathaway was amazing in this film, bearing almost her entire body with Jake. She here plays a girl with parkinson diease at stage 1. So it was Anne's self-esteeem that was affected. So how much Jake did, she couldn't accept and found that she was the troublemaker. The ending was kind of quick as Jake and Anne broke up for awhile and Jake chased her back. Anne wasn't the only one bearing all. There was the other girl at the pyjamas party too. This is a romantic movie that guys would love.

Yogi Bear (23/12/10)

Hardly even any kids or anyone was laughing in the cinema. Its all about Yogi thinking that he is smarter than an average bear, since he has the ability to speak and think. So, he simply steals people's food instead of hunt for one. This keeps people away from jellystone park. His movements are quite stupid but yet he never gives up showing off his talent. Till one day, during jellystone's anniversary, he chased everyone away due to his mistake. It was a peaceful ending as Yogi was made the hero out of his stupidity and prevent the governor from clearing jellystone. Skip this movie. It isn't cute either. The only good thing is that the movie is really short. Not draggy. 2/5

Rabbit without ears 2 (13/1/11)

I don't get it why straits Times life only rate this 2/5. Nonsense. Its 4/5. German shows are great. At least so far two that I've seen. Wana know why is it rated R21? The first minute into the movie, you'll be greeted with a hot chic with sexually expressive facial expressions and sounds she make as she speak and she'll say let me show you a secret and then unzip her top, exposing her fake huge boobs. That makes it a straight M18. Next, you see some fake and extremely long penis here attached to man's crotch, describing that as eiffel tower. If that was cut and rate it NC16, more people can watch this film. Was that really necessary? You tell me. It was just to show a man dreaming as he wakes up from bed to the voice of his screaming wife, nagging and questioning him why was the huge pile of bottles not cleared. Its a show about relationships and their problems between husband and wife. The attentiveness that men must give to a woman and the space that woman must give to a man. As for the title, why rabbit without ears? Its because of a soft toy that the couple made for the kids in their job to entertain the kids in a puppet show. It really has no relation to the movie plot. I hope the DVD realeased would cut off the first part to bring it down to NC 16. I recommend married couples to watch.

Lelio popo movie (13/1/11)

Lelio popo resembles the muttons from 987FM. Yes, it features the two Malaysian deejays, KK and ah Luke. Most of language is in Cantonese, if you can't you have to read the subtitles which are provided in malay, chinese and english. I'm impress with the way the deejays communicate. It protrays such good chemistry and understanding between each other.
Its a story about these two deejays who just got scolded by their radio manager, a lady and brought this general issue of how is it like working under a lady boss. Well, you think they ask for it? But I think its good. Deejays should voice out any unhappiness they have even if its a political issue within the radio office itself that may risk them getting the sack. So, in the effort of trying to get another job, they post themselves as old ladies to get hired by another stations who are hiring old ladies. In the course of it, they protray a good image. However, Mindee Ong's reel boyfriend, was jealous not to get the chance to be the deejay instead. He plays the bad guy in this show and eventually was the one who exposed the true gender of the "old ladies" in a concert. However the audience were supportive as bonds between them and the deejays have been formed and the audience like them.
Lessons like respecting your elders or coming home more often for dinner was protrayed over and over again in this film. Hmm... typical asian film.
About whether its funny? I don't really thing so, except for afew jokes. Watch to find out. Skip t if you're not into Cantonese.

Kinako: A Police Dog Dream(6/1/11)

Bad news for dog lovers, this movie is rated 1/5 by Straits Times Life. Ha! Boo to that rating. I rated alittle higher. Maybe 2.5? Most dog shows end of with either the dogs dying or lost or some kind of a sad ending but this film, its a happy ending. Remember Haichiko or Marley and me? Did you cry? Many did. There's only 1 sad part in the middle, where the dog trainer couldn't take the pressure of dog trainings anymore and decided to part ways with the dog to return back to her home. Oh well, that was sad. The dog barked and barked, like calling the owner to return. Kinako was sad till the owner finally returned.
Kinako is afraid of heights and would never jump over an obstacle and could never pass a smelling test exam to be qualified as a police dog. There was a scene that shows it lands head down, on the floor as it trys to jump over an obstacle. Wow. Its neck could have broke. However Kinako was more like a celebrity to the city even though he keeps failing its police dog exam. Watch to find out how. Rating: 2.5/5.

Fair game review (13/1/11)

This is based on a true story and you have to read the movie from start to end. No, not read the translation, but every piece of information is important. Every scene moves fast and there's lots of information to grasp. If you're tired from a long working day, don't watch this film. You'll be drained out. The entire movie has conversations after conversations and news after news. As good as a documentary. Wow, Naomi Watts went to Kuala Lumpar to film the beginning part. Of course it's malaysia's tourism board that wants to promote its unique twin tower icon.
Throughout the movie, you'll see snapshots of how certain scenes are related to the news about the war of US and iraq. The entire plot is based on a political issue between this couple and the white house. In my opinion, the war on iraq can be prevented. Watch to find out more.
Rating:3/5

The Fighter review (6/1/11)

Many reviewers like this film. But for me, this award winning film is just normal. Its based on a true story. Christian Bale did really well in this film. He had to immitate the actions of the original fighter/trainer, Dickie Eklud. Actions like the attitude, behaviour and way of speech. At the end of the movie, the real micky ward and Dickie will be featured and you can make your own comparison.
Christian Bale in this movie, takes on an aggressive and rash behaviour that leads him to jail at the point of time when his brother, played by Mark, was in need to train up for an upcoming fight match. Mark, plays Micky Ward, that uses a one punch knock out blow in his fights. So he would simply block off hits all the way till the opponent is tired before he gives the knock out blow. Seems impressive. The front few scenes were merely showing how Mark gains his confident from a fighter that lacks experience to someone who wins the championship. So, the actual boxing match, just like many other movies like Tekken and Karate Kid that features fighting matches, would be right at the end. And after the match, you know the movie is over.
Amy Adams plays Mark's girlfriend and an irritant to Mark's family. She's hot and rowdy. There is a scene with Mark and her making out in lingerie.
This movie was shot in Massachusetts, USA, so the houses, cars and environment is a little vintage.

Rating 3/5.

Time Traveller: The girl who leapt through time (16/12/10)

This film is a remake of the animated film released in 2006. I'm not a fan of animation, so I would prefer this, though still has some fantasy in it that puts me off. This is a Japanese film that plots about a girl who agreed to travel back in time to fulfill her hospitalized mum's dream. She was instructed to drink a portion of this certain potion that would take her back to a certain date. Of course realistically this is impossible. But the stupid thing is that she returns to the wrong date, 2 years ahead of where she should be. During the turn back time period, it was stupid. She was seen screaming and struggling through a dark enviroment where lots of large images of numbers, alpherbets and signs fly pass her on her sides and as she leap from one falling brick to another. And at the end, she simply fall from the sky and land on someone. She landed in the right venue but it was the wrong person that she intended to meet. But the guy was kind enough to house her and help her to find the right man she was supposed to look for. A tragic ending as the guy who housed her died in an accident. The right man erased her mind off this friendship and send her back to the original time. It was sad how her memory had to be gone. But an item was brought back with her. Watch to find out what it is. 2.5/5

Confessions (25/11/10)

This movie is crazy. Its crap. Its sick. The plot goes like this: A teacher who had her daughter killed by her students of age 13/14 when berserk calmly. One day she came into class and gave every student a packet of milk to drink. While drinking she began to unfold slowly and subtly the story of her daughter getting killed, hinting to the class two of her students were the killers. The moment she said she wanted to take revenge by putting HIV into the milk of those two students, both of them when mad in their own ways. One, just stood there crying in fear and the other burst out into the toilet and laughing it out in the end, thinking, she wouldn't really do such thing.

However the one who stood there crying in fear was the one that turned mad for the rest of the school semester. He messed him his room, scream in an intolerant way everyday and eventually killed his mum. His self-esteem was affected, he saw himself as unclean. In actual fact, the teacher did not put in HIV. She said it just to make the students reflect upon themselves. This boy who went mad was kind of like the loser to the other guy. The other guy was smarter and at the scene of killing the teacher's daughter, he taunted him saying that he was lousy and wanted to use him. The teacher's daughter wasn't actually dead yet but he went ahead to drown her in the pool. The smarter guy killed his own classmate/girlfriend and eventually his mum unknowingly. Sights of blood smearing on the walls and scary faces with psychotic emotions.

Its a movie with people full of perverse thoughts and can't think straight, thus using murder as a result to solve problems. Its weird. Don't watch it. Yet some still think its good. Each slot available for booking are always full house in the theatres. 3/5.

The Tourist (30/12/10)

Its all about appreciating the calmness and the inner beauty of Angelina Jolie. Can you relate this lady to Salt, the russian spy? Definitely, not much difference in image and dressing. But she looks slightly older compared to the role, Salt and she gives a very warm motherly feeling here. The way she walks, carry herself, facial expression, especially the way she blinks her eyes. It slows you down from the moderately intense and slightly comical introduction. In the midst of the storm, there is calmness. Wow.. Beautiful. Johnny Depp takes on a more serious role in the film. The train ride conversation between them was basically introducing themselves as they get to know one another. She, tries to draw him to her.

I thought the beginning was good, it seems like something really exciting coming up. But you get calm down during the train ride and bits of scenes along the way gets you excited again. Well, the ending wasn't fantastic, maybe it should be more realistic instead of having the gun shot that crashes through the glass window in slow motion and all three man drop dead at an instance.

Some reviewers say this film is disappointing. Probably the film should have thrown in one or two more dramatic chase to hunt down the couple. 3.5/5
