Bruce Lee, My brother (25/11/10)
This movie is based on Bruce Lee's life from age 0-19. It begins with his parents actually say the word 'push' as the name of the kid to the nurse who just delivered him out. 'Push' was probably the only English word the parents knew how to say as they gave birth to him in a US hospital. But the nurse interpret it as 'Bruce', so therefore his name is Bruce Lee. Stupid right? But probably its true that's why they film that.
If you're in for fights and action, you should totally skip this movie, because you'll be kept waiting for about 1 hour plus before the action actually starts. The only two fight scenes which took place in the entire film is about the last 40 mins. Where he fights in a western boxer in a ring and won and again with the same boxer outside of the ring and won again. But in my opinion which the actor himself has admitted, he is no where near Bruce Lee at all.
For the first 1 hour of the movie, was about his growing up as a kid where he already took interest in fighting and only when he turns 17 that he became serious in learning Wing Chun from Ip Man. Most of his teenage life, he just do filming that involves him as a fighter. His actual career only started when he moves back to US at the age of 19. The movie ends there.
What we want to see in this movie is how he mastered the skills of Wing Chun, the amount of time and effort he took to practice and master it and the difficulties he gone through in the training. All these were not shown but rushed through in 10 mins or less. Instead what was shown is him dancing with girls, and him having fun with friends. Maybe the sides that we don't know about him. But is that really important?
Sucks!!! 2/5. Shouldn't even be done.
